all about DEBORAH FORD…

Deborah Ford is an abstract expressionist painter who uses the "drip technique" of pouring or splashing liquid paint onto a horizontal surface, enabling her to view and paint her canvases from all angles.

It is also called all-over painting and action painting, since she covered the entire canvas and used the force of her whole body to paint, often in a frenetic dancing style.

"When I'm working on a painting, I'm not aware of what I'm doing. It's only after that I see what it is all about. I am not afraid of making changes when I feel that it’s needed . I try to build up dense, lyrical images composed of intricate skeins of line. . That’s why I work with the canvas flat on the floor, constantly moving all around it while applying the paint and working from all four sides."

Instead of using the traditional paintbrush, she adds depth to her works using knives, trowels, or sticks. This form of painting had similar ties to the Surreal movement, in that it had a direct relation to the artist's emotions, expression, mood, and showcased their feeling behind the pieces they designed.

"My paintings have a life of their own. I am just the instrument".
